The goal New painted cabinets provide a plain, smooth counterpoint for the beauty of the wood backdrop. The former pine cabinets created a "can’t see the forest for the trees" setting in which there was no visual relief from wood surfaces. The patterned surface of the log walls, plank ceilings and pine cabinets all competed with one another for attention. Flat panel cabinet styling and a simple, bold color scheme allow the home to make a contemporary statement. These elements bring out several different but complementary sensibilities, including hip urbanity, cozy nostalgia and Asian serenity. The custom designed center light fixture brought badly needed overall light to the space. It made use of existing electrical connections in the wood plank ceiling, where former fixture choices had not addressed shadows thrown by the ceiling support beams. |
